Tail Slip

Etiology:  Fractures of the tail vertebrae, and degloving of the tail skin can all occur with improper handling (A.).  This usually involves picking up animals by the middle or distal portion of the tail.

Incidence:  Tail slip is uncommon.

Clinical Signs:  Loss of the tail skin near the distal portion of the tail.

Diagnosis:  Physical examination is used to make the diagnosis of “tail slip.”

Tail Slip
