Vaginitis and Scrotal Plugs

Etiology:  Wood chips combined with inguinal sebaceous secretions may adhere to the vulva, penis, or scrotum causing a foreign body reaction.  Secondary bacterial infections or obstruction of urination or defection are typical sequelae [1].

Incidence:  Incidence of vaginitis is common.  Incidence of scrotal plugs is common, particularly in older males.

Clinical Signs:  Clinical signs include swelling of the vulva, vestibule, or perineal folds with visible accumulations of sebaceous and bedding material.  Animals may have difficulty urinating or defecating.

Diagnosis:  Diagnosis is made based on clinical signs.
